Luke Campbell, Andrew Selby and Anthony Joshua all made it through today’s semis to guarantee silver medals and compete for gold tomorrow. Tom Stalker had to settle for bronze and qualification for the London 2012 Olympics after losing out to Denys Berinchyk from the Ukraine.

Boxers from Great Britain have only ever won one previous gold medal at the World Championships, when Frankie Gavin triumphed in the lightweight category in Chicago in 2007.

Following his victory on count-back after the scores finished 12-12, Hull’s Luke Campbell said: "It was a close one but I always thought I did enough, and I was counting the score in the last one and thought I won it by a couple. All credit to John Joe, he's a great competitor, and has qualified for his second Olympics. I'll be going to my first, and now I've got a World Championship final to look forward to and I can't wait. It’s been a brilliant week for the whole team, and I just want to top it off and bring the gold back home."

Wales’ Andrew Selby added: "I was always confident I'd win even when the coaches told me I was behind after the first. I thought he'd tire, and I'm in great shape and just went in and enjoyed myself, threw a few shots, and a few of them hit so I felt pretty good.
